Feature and Follow is a weekly feature hosted by Parajunkee and Alison Can Read.
Thank you for making me a Featured Blogger this week!
The aim is to make new friends in the book blogging community and gain new followers to your blog.
Question of the week:
How do you decide what books to read?
I usually try to prioritise my ARCs first. I have them listed in a spreadsheet and sorted by publication date so I know what books are being published soon. I then alternate between author requests (if any are pending), book group reads and my own choice. My own choice is usually a book I've been wanting to read for a while or a new release that I'm desperate to read!
I'm like you with the "ARCs come first" I have a couple books out from the library that I'm dying to read but I must read and write review for all the ARCs this month and then the lib stuff. :)
ReplyDeleteAfter that, I usually just choose a book from my 2015 TBR on Goodreads or go to the library (but I'm making a point to only read book from my 2015 TBR since they are must-reads and have high priorities)

I'm the same actually! I have a few out too but I need to read a few others first. I have a really bad habit of borrowing books even when I have loads at home still to read!
DeleteSticking to a 2015 TBR sounds like a good idea! There are so many good books out this year.
Thanks for following! Following back :)
Hopping through. Wow, you're much more organized than me. I should be better about tracking ARCs.
ReplyDeleteMy FF
I will admit I have a bit of a thing for organising. I can't help myself! haha.
DeleteThanks for visiting :)
You're more organised than me! A spreadsheet sounds like a great idea to keep ARCs prioritised. I usually choose my books based on moods and sometimes that's simply being eager to read a new release or one I've been waiting on too. Congrats on the feature! New follower.
ReplyDeleteA spreadsheet is so helpful! I just love being organised so it was a great excuse haha. Choosing based on mood is always a good way to go! Thanks for following :)
DeleteI do a similar thing too...I have a spreadsheet and every month I alternate between ARC and books on my shelves. New Follower through Bloglovin.
ReplyDeleteRenee@ Addicted To Romance
Having a spreadsheet makes it much easier to keep track :)
DeleteI always try to alternate between ARCs and what I have to read too.
Thanks for following! :)
Congrats on being featured blogger! I do the same as you - spreadsheets all the way!
ReplyDeleteClaire @ Book Blog Bird
Thank you! Spreadsheets are definitely the way to go! :)
DeleteOh wow! That sounds really detailed! I don't get too many ARCs and review books, but when I do, those are priority no matter their release date. I will slip in a new release on occasion if it's a MUST READ NOW kind of book though! I am almost caught up with review books so I kind of almost hope I don't get any more for awhile!
ReplyDeleteHere's my Follow Friday
Have a GREAT day!
Old Follower :)
I know what you mean, it can get a bit overwhelming when you have a huge pile of them! I think once I've caught up I'll try to be more selective about what I request :)
DeleteMuch more organized than me :) I need to get on what your doing! I'm a mood reader, but I try to read any ARCs and books I've accepted for review within 30 days of publish or receiving them. Then the rest of the time is based on what I want. However right now I'm sorely behind!!!
ReplyDeleteCongrats on being featured this week. New follower on Bloglovin.
30 days is impressive! I'm really behind at the moment too. I'm trying to power through as quickly as I can!
DeleteThank you! & thank you for following :)
I have a similar method, I keep a colour coded calender on OneNote for ARC deadlines etc.

Love that you colour code! I'm obsessed with being organised so I'm loving hearing all these different ideas. :)
DeleteThanks for following!
Wow! I applaud your organization skills! :) I've never tried the ARC route; I can't decide whether or not I want to! :/ Happy reading!
ReplyDeleteThanks! I have a little bit of an obsession with being organised! haha. I couldn't decide about ARCs at first either but now I love it. The only problem is that they become a little addicting!
DeleteThanks for stopping by :)
Congrats on the feature!
ReplyDeleteI wish I could be as organized as you are! I usually just read whatever I feel up to reading haha, but hopefully I can find the motivation to make my own system soon!
Have a great weekend :)

Goodreads is amazing for finding more books. I can easily spend hours on there adding new books.
DeleteThanks for following :)
Same here. I found that I had got burned out so now I put books I want to read on my schedule and book no tours during it.

ReplyDeleteUsing a spreadsheet made life so much easier!
DeleteThanks for following :)
I keep a spreadsheet of all my unread books too! It's the only way to keep track of them. Same here - I have a book club and always read the pick for the month.
ReplyDeleteAlso, love your blog design - so cute! New Bloglovin follower <3
Yay another spreadsheet user! I don't know how I managed to keep track before! Aww thanks :) <3
DeleteFollowing back!
I first pick based on ARC/E-galley release dates as well. I should have a spreadsheet, but instead I just keep making lists over and over again. Spreadsheets sound a lot more organized!
ReplyDeleteCongrats on being a Featured Blogger this week!!!

Here's my FF!
Thank you! :)
DeleteHaha awww choosing based on mood is a great method! At least then it's always something that you really want to be reading!
Same here. Takes me months to read what I actually want, lol. New twitter and bloglovin follower My FF
ReplyDeleteHaha I know what you mean! I have such a bad habit of requesting ARCs when I really shouldn't be adding any more to my pile!
DeleteThanks for following :)
Everyone seems to be so organized lol! I usually just pick books depending on my mood and do my best at paying extra attention to ARCs. I need to get more organized...
ReplyDeleteAlso, congrats on being featured!
I followed you through GFC and Twitter!
Haha I know! I've always had a love for being organised so I'll pretty much take any excuse.
DeleteThank you! :)
Hi! I'm a new follower on GFC and bloglovin'.
ReplyDeleteThe idea with the spreadsheet is awesome. I should try that too.
And yes, I usually read ARCs first too and then go on to my own books. :)
The spreadsheet has definitely made it much easier to keep track!
DeleteThank you for following :)
I'm the same with reading ARCs and author requests first, only not as organized. I just read them whenever I can fit them in and I don't have a list of publication dates. I should do that!
ReplyDeleteMy FF!
It's made it much easier for me to keep track but I still read them when I can fit them in. Sometimes other books have to come first if it's something I've been looking forward to! :)
DeleteI do something really similar! I've become a lot more picky about the ARCs I accept and galleys I request, though. I've been fooled too many times by pretty covers and amazing book blurbs. I find I like reading a lot more when I choose to read existing books I KNOW I'm going to love. That way if I have to DNF a book, I don't have to feel bad and email the author or anything. (:
ReplyDeleteHere's my FF!
I know the feeling! The request button becomes far too addicting. I'm trying to be more picky too because like you, I've been fooled by books that sound so good and then I'm disappointed. Sounds like you have the right idea! :)
DeleteYou are amazingly better organised than I :) I basically tend to go with whatever I feel like reading, which inevitably does mean I fall behind sometimes... yeah, I need to work on that, don't I? Followed on Blogovin' and here's mine: http://editingeverything.com/blog/2015/05/10/follow-friday-2-how-do-you-decide-what-books-to-read/
ReplyDeleteThat's a good method too! I still fall behind sometimes even with a spreadsheet as sometimes I just need to read a new release instead :) Thanks for following!
