Finding Audrey is the experience of a teenage girl, Audrey, suffering from social anxiety disorder. This is Sophie Kinsella's first book in the Young Adult genre and I think she has produced something really quite special. I was not expecting a book about mental illness to be so funny in parts but actually it was a refreshing take on the subject matter.

One of the best parts about this book is the characters. I loved all of them in their own ways. Audrey is going through a really difficult time but I could sympathise with her and I was rooting for her to make progress with her demons. Her mother is obsessed with the Daily Mail and is convinced that Frank (Audrey's brother) is addicted to computer games. Frank himself was great and some of the conversations between mother and son were hilarious and very reminiscent of teenage life. There is a small romance in the form of Linus who was very cute. I liked that he was eager to help Audrey without any judgement and just wanted her to get better. (There is a little insta-love which felt a bit out of place considering Audrey's anxiety but otherwise their relationship is very cute).

I am also a huge fan of Sophie Kinsella's writing style. She has a gift for tackling a serious subject matter in a way that is funny but without degrading the importance of the topic.

I enjoyed the way it ended as it didn't only focus on Audrey's development but we got to see how the other characters have progressed too.

This is a quick and entertaining read and I'm looking forward to seeing what else is from Sophie Kinsella in this genre.

I received a copy of this book from the publishers via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

  1. I haven't read a single Sophie Kinsella novel, it's a pity isn't it. I might want to check this one out to see how I feel about it. Great review!

    1. I read one of her Shopaholic books when I was a lot younger and it was good but I didn't read that genre for long. This one was even better! I hope you like it if you do check it out. Thank you! :)
